Third countries whose nationals are subject to or exempt from a visa requirement: suspension mechanism

This dossier concerns the mechanism to suspend the visa exemption for nationals of certain third countries. Amendments strengthen the suspension mechanism, enable the Commission or the European Parliament to trigger it, shorten reference periods, and extend grounds of suspension to include rises in third-country nationals, rejected readmission applications, organised crime, human trafficking, terrorist offences and forged documents, while requiring respect for human rights and the right of asylum.
