Summary
Legislative proposal on removing the fins of sharks on board vessels for fish-stock conservation. Amendments stress the vulnerability of Elasmobranchii (sharks, skates and rays) to overexploitation and the threat to many stocks including blue shark and shortfin mako classed by the IUCN, and reference special fishing permits under Regulation (EC) No 1185/2003, Regional Fisheries Management Organisations' preference for landing fins attached, and the Commission's impact assessment.
