Community participation in the European Audiovisual Observatory
"Community participation in the European Audiovisual Observatory" is an own-initiative report, meaning Parliament sets out its own position without enacting binding law. It was handled by the Committee on Culture and Education under the subject of audiovisual industry and services. The tabled amendments call on the Observatory to extend its activities to challenges created by media convergence, including the impact of digitalisation, online audiovisual media services, mobile TV and video gaming, and to weigh best practices from Asia or North America. Further amendments urge better coordination among national regulators and stakeholders, welcome the Observatory's work on copyright and related rights, and, referencing the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity and the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, ask it to cover tax and labour law and third-country cooperation.
