Protection of animals during transport and related operations
Protection of animals during transport and related operations is a file handled under the ordinary legislative procedure, so Parliament and the Council of the EU legislate together to adopt binding EU law. It was examined by the committees on Agriculture and Rural Development, Fisheries, and Transport and Tourism, under the subjects of animal protection and animal health and veterinary legislation. The amendments revise minimum rules for transporting animals including unweaned and aquatic species, invoke EFSA opinions and WOAH codes, set means-of-transport and space requirements, discuss reducing live-animal transport in favour of breeding materials and carcasses, banning exports to third countries, and exempt short-distance transport by farmers and aquaculture producers and ornamental fish. It shares subjects such as animal protection with related files including Protection of animals during transport.
