Summary
This own-initiative report evaluates external aspects of customs performance and management as a tool to facilitate trade and fight illicit trade. The amendments address implementation of the Union Customs Code, fragmentation of customs control between Member States, a Union framework for customs infringements and sanctions, customs cooperation with third countries, the fight against illicit trade, counterfeiting, terrorist financing and money laundering, protection of intellectual property rights, and burdens on SMEs.
