The amendments criticise widely varying asylum recognition rates and treatment, detention of persons under the system, disproportionate burdens on border Member States, the lack of a fair burden-sharing mechanism, the need for a European asylum system and support office, transfers to States not guaranteeing fair treatment, the restrictive definition of "family member", and information for asylum seekers.
