Summary

The resolution concerns protecting the EU's internal market and consumer rights against the illegal trade in companion animals. The amendments cite Article 13 TFEU on animal sentience and the Animal Health Law, and address the illegal trade in cats and dogs across Member States including by organised crime, counterfeit pet passports and the involvement of veterinarians, poor breeding conditions, zoonotic risks such as rabies, online sales, and weak consumer protection.
