Summary
This dossier concerns a directive on combating fraud and counterfeiting of non-cash means of payment, including fraudulent payment requests, replacing a Council Framework Decision. The amendments address offences, definitions covering new payment instruments such as electronic money and virtual currencies, effective, proportionate and dissuasive penalties with aggravating circumstances, jurisdictional rules, investigative tools, cross-border cooperation, crime reporting, and assistance to victims including in cases of identity theft.
