Summary

This own-initiative report on the prevention of radicalisation and recruitment of European citizens by terrorist organisations sets out Parliament's own non-binding position on the subject rather than enacting law. It was handled by the Foreign Affairs, Culture and Education, and Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs committees under the subject of action to combat terrorism. The tabled amendments call for a holistic approach addressing the root causes of radicalisation, enhanced international cooperation and counter-terrorism dialogues with third countries, capacity building on border controls, and measures to deter foreign fighters travelling to join jihadist groups, while others reference the EU Radicalisation Awareness Network, the Stockholm Programme and UN Security Council resolutions. It shares subjects such as action to combat terrorism with related files including Combating terrorism.
