Summary

This own-initiative report concerns early years learning in the European Union. Amendments address the importance of early childhood for brain, physical and cognitive development and language acquisition, early childhood education and care (ECEC) and varying national definitions of quality, the benefit to poor and vulnerable families, the balance between labour-market objectives and the best interests of the child, multilingualism, children's right to play and rest, and gender stereotypes.
