Summary

Own-initiative report on applied research relating to the common fisheries policy. Amendments stress that scientific data must underpin quotas and the Maximum Sustainable Yield, note disagreement between fishermen and scientists on the state of fish stocks, call for research covering ecosystemic, economic and social aspects of fisheries management, and express concern that Member States' spending on fisheries data collection has declined since 2006.
