Summary
This own-initiative report addresses the situation and prospects of agriculture in mountainous regions. Amendments revise points on the share of territory covered by mountain areas in some Member States, their natural handicaps, their multifunctional cultural landscapes, the Alpine and Carpathian Conventions, a European definition of mountain areas, the Common Agricultural Policy and 'Less Favoured Areas', and the compensatory allowance for natural disadvantages.
