Community framework for the nuclear safety of nuclear installations

The dossier establishes a Community framework for the nuclear safety of nuclear installations. The amendments, citing the Euratom Treaty, require independent national nuclear safety regulatory bodies, cover the design, siting, construction, operation and decommissioning of installations and the management of radioactive waste and spent fuel, and address licensing and lifetime extension, transparency, information to workers and the public, and cooperation through the European High Level Group on Nuclear Safety.
