Summary

This report concerns certain issues relating to motor insurance. The amendments address penalty provisions across Member States and statutory interest as a compensatory rather than punitive measure, the claims representative and reasoned offer/reply system, the involvement of consumers and consumer associations, legal expenses coverage on a voluntary or compulsory basis, insurance information centres, alternative dispute resolution, and a direct compensation mechanism with a possible transitional period.
