Summary
Own-initiative report on media concentration and pluralism in the EU. Amendments frame media pluralism as essential to the right to information and freedom of expression under Article 11 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights, invoke the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the Amsterdam Treaty protocol on public broadcasting, and stress the role of public service broadcasting in ensuring diversity.
